Back at last

Seven months and not one post. Haven't shot a roll of film since then either. Pretty rubbish.
The reason? I applied for Straight 8 2009 but for various reasons (complete lack of organisation being the main one) the roll of film sits unfinished in my AGFA movexoom.
The pain of my failure has passed and im going to finish what I started and rediscover the pleasure of celuloid. I have discovered the joy of lomography in the interim (expect posts on that in the future) so all is not lost.
For now, here is a trailer for the films that did make Straight 8 2009.

First processed roll of film!

I recently got round to getting my first roll of super 8 film processed and telecined courtesy of The Old Film Company
they were a pleasure to deal with, informing me when the film was being dispatched and attaching a handy sheet of faults with how it was shot!

This particular roll of film had been sitting in my fridge for roughly two years and I wasn't really sure what was on it! Turned out to be from a holiday to Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly in 2007. Although the camera work is erratic I love the colour of the Ektachrome 64T stock.

Frog Jesus

Not much to say on this short. Could be classed as wrong but the magic of Super 8 adds a touch of class.

Für eine Handvoll Dollar

When I brought the projector from Ebay, bundled with it were not one but two super 8 feature films. I am now the owner of the Sergio Leoni iconic western Fistful of Dollars. In German. Unfortunately as the projector did not come with a manual I can't sample the pleasure of a badly dubbed Clint Eastwood. Also included was Close Encounters of the Third Kind (this time in English). Love a bit of seventies Spielberg. Give me Richard Dreyfuss as a protagonist over Tom Cruise any day of the week!

Welcome!

Welcome to my blog charting my adventures in super 8 film making. I work as a digital video editor/ camera operator but wanted to re-discover the wonderful world of celluloid so got on Ebay and brought an Agfa Moviexoom super 8 camera and Sonnector LS projector.
I have shot a bit of super 8 before using a Prinz Corvette (snazzy name) my friend lent me
but i'm looking forward to getting to grips with the Moviexoom as it has a few more bells and whistles.

The aim of all this is to document my experiences shooting with super 8, show any
good films I find on the interweb and link to any good resources I might stumble across.
I may post stuff unrelated to super 8 from time to time if the mood takes me.

Hope you enjoy.
